View Full Version : New here...
Hello everyone...I've done my intro in the new members thread and figure this is where i need to start the learning process. My 9 year old and i are looking for our first project car. He's stuck on Camaro, and I'll agree that he's got good taste. After a bit of shopping I'm worried that the Camaro requires a much greater initial investment than we're ready for right now. We've not settled on a make model or plan yet so I'm looking for advice from all you experts!

any of the collector cars are going to be priced out of a beginner's project market. Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Cuda... more recently the Gran Torino has gone 'gold'... i can tell you that the Ford Ranchero is undervalued(at least it's not overvalued) and can be had for a $ong in many cases. some years compete for parts with the collector Torino/Cobras but the smog years are plentiful and economical. not sure how you feel about Ford having posted in Mopar General and mentioning a Camaro?
just posted, 70 Charger 440

A fox chassis mustang, cougar, t-bird would all be good starter candidates for a first project. Many are in reasonable shape and inexpensive to purchase and modify. Even the 80s g-series gm's like monte carlo, malibu, cutlass, regal, ... can usually be picked up for little $, just be sure to check out the rear frame rails if you go this route. There are more inexpensive options out there, just need to loook around and use some imagination and you may be able to do a project and sell to work towards a camaro in the future.
Good luck!!!
