Finally finished assembling the interior of my little 64 Fairlane yesterday and took her for a drive as a finished product.. Well...I stop at an estate sale where there looks to be some car stuff..Next thing I know I'm the new owner of a 50 Pontiac sedanette 2 door:o ...Now I have no idea what in the hell I'm gonna do with this thing but I know I got a smokin deal on it...I'll go get some pictures later today.

If it gets anything it will be flat black...The car and I are down here in Florida where I have no shop or equipment. I have no plans for any NC trips for a while.. Good chance this one will find a new owner before I do anything with it...Time will tell..

Part of the deal was I had to wait a week to go pick it up.. I just did that, now it's on the trailer and I'm hoping to start cleaning all the crap out of it to see what all I have here..The brakes are good on the car, that's always a big plus as well as the clutch and shift linkake..I'll get some more pictures tomorrow..

Lowered, hot rod black, wide whites, split manifold w/ dual exhaust and you'll have an instant traditional hot rod/cruiser.
That's my vote, anyway. :D

That's my car with a couple extra doors...Mine is a silver streak but I don't know if it's still a streamliner or a chieftian...By the way the molding on the 4 door rear top of door are the ones I used on the roadster...I started cleaning out the car tonite, there is a ton of automotive chemicals and painting stuff in it...I may try to get it running tomorrow..

I'd love to hear the sound of that straight eight purring....

I wonder if a short bit of run time(with 12 volts) will fry the 6 volt coil?? I'm thinking of cranking this car with a 12 volt battery to see if it will run. I'm gonna disconnect all the primary circuits first..Since the 12 volt cars ignition ran on 6 volts anyway I would think I'm safe here...Any thoughts?? I also have to determine if it's negative or positive ground..

Bodacious

It's positive ground. You're going to use a coil resistor anyway, right? If so, it'll be fine. I'm not sure if running a straight 12 volts to the coil would hurt it or not, but it will fry the points in short order.

I may have told you wrong. Although Ford and Mopar 6V systems were indeed positive ground, it seems that at least some GM 6V systems were negative ground.

The way the cable ends were sized it's been negative ground..I unhooked everything and hot wired the coil and primed it up...She fired right up and idled till the gas was gone...It has a 6 volt electric pump mounted underneath and the tank has some really raunchy gas in it. It's way too windy here today to mess with that but it runs good enough that I guess I'm gonna drop the 150 for a battery and put some fresh gas in it and I could very likely have a drivable car here..I found old brake lines, wheel cylinders, shoes and even a pair of old drums in the car, it appears that the brakes have been gone thru completely.

I went to the golf cart dealer and got a 6 volt battery for 35 bucks and strapped it in there. The charging system works..I drove it about a mile and a half so far, this car feels a lot more like a dinosaur than my 49 Ford did. The brakes are solid but it doesn't exactly stop on a dime.lol..Now I guess I need to at least get some brake lights on it..

Took a three mile drive in it today but I have yet to make a beer run with it so it's not yet an official car:D :D

Daffy, I have bought/sold so many $50-$100 old cars that ran with a tweak, ya I am 55yrs, enjoy finding a diamond, they run forever. My best was a 57 Fairlane 312/Tripower.. Wish I still had her, used to go shark fishing at Santa Monica Pier taking PCH no stoplights late at nite, those were the dazzs

Old habits die hard.. I figured I'd not be running into old cars in Florida like I always did in NC..I guess I was wrong.

it'd look bad with just a shot of satin clear coat over it. might need some side mirrors to be legal...

Daffy

I took it to a local car lot...They are gonna sell it for me(I hope)..I'd rather finish my Fairlane and I don't have room for all of them...

No, outside mirrors were still optional on many cars for years after this one was built. General rule of thumb, if the item in question was not required when the car was built, it's not now either.
Darn it Andy, you'll probably get rid of that thing before I ever get down there to see it.
