Years 1974-1976
Body Styles 2d Coupe
Engines 351M; 400; 460
In 1974, Ford introduced a new addition to the Torino line: the Gran Torino Elite. This new model promised Thunderbird luxury with midsize economy, and evidently succeeded. Wearing smoother lines and a "formal" grill, Elite came standard with high-end upholstery, larger wheels and tires, 351cid engine, and a collection of exclusive options that made it even more luxurious than the Gran Torino Brougham. The response to this new model was enormous, with Elite outselling all other Torino models each year of its production. In 1975, Elite dropped the "Gran Torino" from its name and became a line of its own.
Despite its impressive production numbers, few Elites are found or even recognized today. In fact, very few people have even heard of an Elite. Because of this rarity, Elites are a great vehicle to restore and own.
