View Full Version : Cold air intake 1994 ranger questions
I was going to make a cold air intake for my V6 ford ranger i built the filter adapter plate with a heat shield and i was going to just take the top of the air box off and bolt the adapter plate to the the bottom of the air box and use the stock induction pipe. Does anyone know if this will hurt my engine or if there is something i could do better?
Thanks for all the help!!!!

dude, there really aren't that many active members here to answer your question, why don't you try here:

Yeah, like pdw said give ford muscle a try, it is a lot more active than here, just give this site a chance it will wake up once the warmer months come around...

Hi Ryno
I have to apologize, I was not receiving email notice that a question was posted. :( I did however correct my email link. So the lack of participation here was clearly my fault.
Now as far as your fresh air induction , the only one thing I can think of is if there is a sensor going to your ecu it may raise a code.
Do you have photo's ?

The only thing on or forward of the box should be the heat sensor. It's popular with other 90s Fords to just remove the filter/box/zip tube assembly and slap a conical filer on right past the MAF/MAP a la short ram. I have done this to several Taurus SHOs without any problem. Ideally you should try to keep it relatively clean looking, and you can buy an adapter to fit the heat sensor and MAF/MAP if necessary. Otherwise look into getting flexible thick walled tubing (jacuzzi hose) and connect it to where the box was then run through the fender like stock and mount the filter on the end like a typical cold air setup for the cheapest route. If you choose that it's a good idea to make a mount that actually holds the tube in place and provides a more solid filter mount.
That won't look too professional and you'll have to inspect the hose for damage on a regular basis. I have never tried this method, just heard Panther guys raving about it, and a couple lincoln Mark guys. For a cleaner look try using different materials like black PVC or the do it yourself cold-air kits (Spectre brand stuff at Pep Boys/CSK) which are pre cut lengths of pipe and various bends.
