Hay guys as some of you might already know, I own a 72 ford ranchero, and I am a ford guy and it is also one of the best veicacles I have owned, but that is besides the point. So here is the news, my uncle died last week, and may he rest in peace, but he had a pretty big classic car collection, and I am getting offered one by his wife to take for myself. So the last time I talked to him before he died, he said that he owned a what I think was a 64 plymouth fury with a 383 motor, but I am not sure of the tranny. So what do you guys think of those cars, how much are they worth, and is the 383 a big block or a small block? I also don't know much about the mopar's as I have never owned one, but is the fury for this year which I think it is like a chevy 2 or nova, or like a ford falcon? Thanks for the help guys, and I will keep you all updated on what I end up taking.

The 383 is a big block.... it might be a Magnum.... some of the older ones were....I think I may have a picture.... the Fury's didn't go really big until the 70's however if memory serves me some of the late 50's and early 60's were boats too... you know the perfect person to ask is Hillbilly over at Ranchero US he has had a few.... but I can tell you if its not worn out... that 383 can kick some serious butt :D

*RD*, don't go over to the darkside:D

Seriously, Furys are good looking cars, especially in the 60's. I don't have much insight on value but can say they are usually a might bit more valuable than rancheros due to higher interest. Are you sure it is a 383, i thought the old BB 318 was more common in that era but I could be wrong and probably am. Would be cool to hear more about it, let us know more when you can.

I will let you guys know, I am just waiting for when my uncle's spouse to write us back when she gets the time. I was also doing some research last night, and a 383 was infact produced in the early 60's. Talk to you later

I knew the 383 was around, just thought it was more of an optional performance engine at that time. I am not sure when the magnum series was introduced but I believe it was later in the 60's.

Yeah, true, I am also the last guy to ask about mopars, I know noting about them. But I do know it is a 383 becasue my uncle was talking to me about the car last summer, so I guess if it was optional that car is probably worth even more. Thatwas one of the last conversations I ever had with him...
Very sad...

64 was the last year that the fury was on the "B" platform and it's a very disirable car...the 65 and up went to the piggish "C" platform...Other B platform cars include the Road Runner, Charger, and Superbee. The 383 is indeed a big block and should be rated at 325 HP with the 4 barrell and 300 with the 2 Barrell. The trans will be a 727 push button(64 was the last year for that too)..If it's a sports fury it will have bucket seats and floor shift(like the XL for you ford folks).. Congrats on a great car.
