Hay guys I tried posting this on ranchero.us but no dice as of yet so here it goes. I got offered a c6 tranny with a 3000 stall converter and a c6 that was recently rebuilt for $300 all together and that is including a new slip yolk and cable bracket. So my question is will the factory column shift work without any mods, and the valve body in the tranny is stock pattern. Also is there anything I have to change out to make the tranny work like the flexplate or the driveshaft or even the kick down rod. I also already know about the cross member has to be moved back a bit. Thanks guys as this is all I could think about what might have to be changed for now.

Hey Dave,
Ref to the crossmember moving it back, don't quote me on this, but I believe all you have to do is turn the crossmember around. That is what I have to do for my C6 to toploader conversion, I got that out of some Ford books I have. It might work for a C4 to C6, Ford did have a better idea...:D

Yeah, that is true that ford always did have the better idea. I think that while the tranny is out I am going to replace the tranny mount as the one that is in there is a bit oil saturated. Also it everything else otherwise swapable. Thanks

C6 driveshaft is shorter.. As I recall the flexplate is a C6 item as well as the sandwich plate...And if it was a floor shift trans the pattern will be reversed if you use it with a column shifter..It's not too hard to refabricate the shift arm to correct that..

So the driveshaft from a c4 would not work, and how would you fix that. Would I have to get a new drive shaft or could I just get the one I have now shortened? Maby I should just stick with the c4 I have now and just get the torque converter for the c4. Thanks

You can shorten the driveshaft... The C6 is a lot stronger unit but it's also heavier and eats up a little more Hp....

Thanks, I should think this over as I have heard about the c6 eating up a bit of extra ponies. The reason why I opted for the c6 is I got it offered to me for pretty cheap. So those are the things that have to be changed out to run it?

Dave,
That C6/3000rpm converter combo is most likely out of a stock CJ setup, it's what I have in mine. Unless your out for performance, a little overkill. But it is a awesome setup given your engine is on the same page, develops power at 3K. The driveshaft, ya you can get it cut, thats not a problem at all, no biggee. Measure yours and see what ya need, I have one out of my donor you can have, it might fit. Also the C4, don't discount that, it is a strong tranny and with the mods offered today, killer!!!
Good luck with it and keep us informed...CJ

Yeah, I am running a lunaiti camshaft that calls for a 2500 stall converter, and I thought it might be a good upgrade to drop a c6 in the car. I also have nothing against my c4 as it is a lighter unit, and it doesn't take away as much horse power that the c6 does. The build that I chose is also performane oriented with high compression ratio of 10.5.1 dome tops, and some head work. I will have to post some pics of the motor when I get back home as I am back at school. Boo. Also if I do decide to go the c6 route, how much would you want for the shaft and I wonder how hard it would be to ship it to upstate New York.
