I'm considering getting a 429 from a late 72 Tbird and rebuilding it, I'm assuming that it is one of the bottom of the barrel 429 motors but if it's better than that who am I to complain. The motor will take the place of the 351C (RIP) that was in my 72 Ranchero GT (its an early 72). I will be getting the entire drivetrain from the Tbird so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues with other drivetrain components. I hope to reuse alot of the old parts, however I am open to suggestions on pistons, cam, intake, carb, and what ever other parts everyone thinks are an absolute must when rebuilding a motor. My goal is to keep this job on the budget side (under $1500, i hope) and make it somewhat street friendly. Please, any and all imput will be appreciated (I'm not gonna get a 460, I want to remain period correct with the motor).

Thank you, and play safe!

The thing is in a junk yard and it just seems like a safe bet to at least do a ring and bearing job on it. From what the scrappers told me the car has been sitting thee for quite a while so it probably has water in it too :(.

the motor in Grouch is a 429 out of a 71 Tbird... Klaus went with a mild build bored over 30 flat top pistons, an RV cam Weind Stealth intake and holley 750 Carb for about 1600.00 You can do it if your doing most of the work. Let me know if you need specifics.

I would do an inspection of the bearings.....If everything looks good I would use it....385 motors are hard to wear out...

The 429 got snapped up before I could get to it. I'll just continue hoarding parts for my 434 build.
