There is a 71 AMC Javelin at my favorite junk yard. I keep asking them about the car and they keep saying that they don't have the title yet, so they cant sell it to me. The car is almost all there, it's even sitting on the origional wheels. All the glass is intact, and there is very minimal body dammage if any. The car even has the origional 232 and 3 speed on the floor. The interior is mostly there although the seats are trashed and the dash pad is gone. I realy like this car but how much should I offer them in order to get the paperwork to move a little quicker? Also, if I do get it I'll want to upgrade the drive train to a blown 401 and T-56 but am I insane for thinking that that would be possible?

Yes. The car is not worth alot to most people but it is a destictive part of the pony car wars and the muscle car era in general and needs to kept alive as much as possible. If the 401 is salvagble by all means rebuild it. Alot of the Jeep guys would kill for one to drop into there CJ.

It actualy has a 232 I6 in it which I was going to replace with a 401 Long block from checker and then try to mate it with a T-56 (most likely a heavily modified one) for street driving. I've heard alot of different conflicting information on AMC cars like bolt patterns and parts availability and the like. I know that just like my Torino the Javelin will be a labor of love and not something that I'd flip to make a quick buck.

Unless there's a dispute on the ownership of the car, they can sell it as a "parts car" to you with a bill of sale and you can get a title from Broadwaytitle.com for under 200 bux....I have done this before...What state are you in???

I'm in Arizona, I think I may pass on the javelin for now. It's not like things go very quick at this scrap yard anyhow.

Here's a 70s Javelin that's been sitting for 3 years-the guy owes more than the car is worth for storage. It's really complete but so far the storage guy is holding on to it.
