Custom Profile pics and Avatars

I noticed that I can use a .gif image as my profile picture, well I tried it and it worked for me anyway.:)
But I also noticed that you cannot use a .gif image as an Avatar, didn't work when I tried it. A .gif image is animated, but can be made small enough to fit the required size. Is it possible to make .gif's useable as Avatars?

Not that I have alot of Avatars anyway, their pretty easy to make in .jpg, but I know someone that can make .gif's. :)

ya you can make it .gif..there are many free softwares available for download..just choose the best one..all of them have similar structure to build a .jpg to .gif...need some good idea to make it....
