I was wondering how a hydro boosted brake system compares to a vacume boosted brake system. I am currently gathering parts from a 78 Lincoln MK III.

I'm not a big fan of the hydroboost because if the belt fails you lose both the power steering and power brakes at the same time plus I have to believe replacement parts are expensive and hard to find.

I'm with Daffy on this one. I would go vac. if I wanted power.

I am currently working on a 5 speed conversion and was going to use the hydro boosted system to free up space on the firewall for a master cylinder to accuate the clutch.

Well I have been running this junk yard system for a couple of months now and so far so good. The booster does leak a little but that will be replaced when I redo the steering box. For something that cost a little over $100 from the junk yard its working very nicly.

Also hydro boost is good for people who are running a big cam that is a vaccum hog.

When we put a 460 in an 81stang,we decided to use a hydroboost set-up for clearance reasons. That was 15 years ago and the system has been generally care free, and much better than no power assist.
