So, what do you think about Big Brother's new plans to mandate traction and stability control on future vehicles ('09, apparently). Yes, mandatory full-time safety features. They already got ABS brakes...
No more powersliding, drifting, donuts, burnouts... rather than actually go to the root of them problem (poor driving education and the fact that every a-hole has to be drinking coffee and talking on his cellphone...)

I think they should be offered as options only, the nanny.......I mean, government, should not make them federally mandated.

All that crap belongs on minivans...Not on real cars.

If they are going to federally mandate this stuff, they shouldn't force companies to actually install this stuff on every car, but make them highly advertised, no-cost options.

I didn't vote because there is good logic for both sides.
I think a person should be an accomplished enough driver to not need those things. If you are behind the wheel you should know how to brake on wet pavement, snow and ice so as not to lock up your brakes to begin with, thereby not needing ABS.
The same with traction control and stability control. You should be skilled enough to know how to accellerate without spinning the drive tires and you should also know how to get back on the road after you drop off the shoulder while talking on the phone or eating a burger without rolling or losing directional control.
I used to be able to steer with my knee, light a cig with my left hand, have my arm around my girlfriend or have my hand somewhere else so I couldn't use it, tune the radio, while drag racing my buddy, who was doing the same thing.
On the other hand those things are wonderful for the bonehead, idiot, moronic, imbeciles that have no clue how to drive without wrecking their cars, thereby redeucing my insurance premiums because those features keep their vehicles upright and on the roadway inspite of their lack of driving skills.
Does opinion make sense to anyone other than me?:D ;)

ya, I guess that makes sence, if the government is gonna mandate these features, you should at least be able to turn them off

Well I guess I am not a good example everyone in the family wears a seatbelt except me, and I agree with wearing seat belts, but here is why I don't and this is only in my case.
I was racing round track in germany when I hit a guard rail and ended up upside down on the race track, the roll cage and everything protected me, but the cars were flying by me and the gas tank was mounted behind the drivers companrtment and it was not ruptured, but all i could think about before they got to me was that another car would hit me and i would be burned to death, the seat belts I had on were the H harness, and I quickly learned that upside down you cannot unbucktle them atleast i couldn't so i was trapped and that is a really bad fealing.
Now i know the other side of the story is they saved me , but they could also have caused my death if the car caught on fire.
so there is my little story. so as far as seat belts, I like choice, but as far as abs etc, that stuff makes the cars safer and makes my old classic cars worth more.

I always use my seatbelt, the thought of getting in a collision, and getting impaled by my steering wheel isn't very appealing. I think seat belts should be left up to personal preference though, and not forced...........the world needs more organ donors anyways. I always carry an exacto-knife in case I need to cut the belts.

The problem is that they are trying to protect people from themselves. That is impossible to do because they will find ways around that protection. They improve braking, people drive faster and tailgate closer. They improve handling so people corner faster.Etc...........
