Prostreet, since you're in the business, I'd love to have your opinion. The way my father always taught me is that MIG is good for sheetmetal and light structural, whereas TIG should be used for heavier structural and suspension work. My teacher at school though told me TIG is only used for welding Aluminum, and that everything is being done with MIG nowadays. Whats your opinion?

You have to TIG weld chromoly as well. Aluminun can be MIG welded, I think. I seem to remember something about reversing the polarity.
If the MIG is of suficient output, you should be able to weld just about anything with it. You just have to do it certain ways, like a valley build up or something, iffin I remember my welding classes from college.

Hi Dover
Well I dont like to argue with tech teachers but I use tig for quite a bit. Now Chrome Molly Should be Tig welded but aluminum can be done with both tig and mig. It all depends on the job and the results you are looking for. :)

I'm going to be checking out a tech school in PA soon, maybe we could set something up. I'd love to get some knowledge from a professional in the field I want to go into.
