What are the details of the car...year, engine, color. Is it a Duster 340?

Duster_340
09-16-2006, 06:43 AM
Its just a Duster with a slant 6. 2 scoops, a moronic paintjob. and for some crazy reason they put those plastic hubcaps on it that you see on alot of mid 90's economy cars. first thing im gonna do to it when it rolls on out driveway is pry those things off. I plan on giving it a 340 sooner or later. problebly eather sassy grass green or plum crazy. otherwise I dont know much about the car, but man, 800 bucks for a good shell, slant 6, and perfect driving order, you cant help but jump on it.

We just got back from purchasing the Duster. its accually a 1975. still thats a good year. Dusters hardly changed over the years. it needs a new shifter setup, and its automatic. theres a little hole in the floor, and a small tab you need to put the shifter in. then shif it forword, take out the shifter, and just drive. not too safe to drive, but funny as heack. and the collest part is that it catches on the 2nd or 3rd turnover. its awsom. ill see if I can post pics today, otherwise we may pick it up at dusk. best 800 bucks iv spent... and the only full 800 iv spent.

The Dusters home. WOOHOO. too dark to take any pics, and its raining. ill see what I can do tommorrow. its funny cause we needed to drive like 8 miles from there to our house in it, and it ran out of gas... ironic huh? while me and my 18 Y/O bro were on the side of the road, 3 guys stopped to ask us for help and just talk Mopar. I was given an application to become a member of Wisconsin MoPar Muscle Club, and a flyer where theres many MoPar parts for sale, and we just talked about my new car. I mean WOW. Havent been driving it for 10 minutes and already 3 admirers and 2 inventation type things. right now ill just list some specs.

1. after market dual scoops which are of low quality, and shook around at 60 on the highway. (im gonna give it a new hood)

2. Cheap aftermarket front bucket seats. (replacing them, no question about it)

3. Need to poke a screwdriver in a hole in the trunk and twist to open it.

4. Must put the shifter in a tab (which is under a holw in the car, YOU CAN SEE THE ROAD!), then puch it forword, and just start driving. (Its an automatic, ill post pics of what you need to do tommorrow.)

5. Starts on the 3rd or 4th turnover.

6. Sound awsome for a slant 6.

7. came with crappy hubcaps. (Pried them off right-a-way)

8. Gas cap wouldn't come off, it eventually came off with help of one of the 3 men who pulled over, now theres a plastic bag over it, with a napkin in it in case of a leak.

ill post pics tommorrow. this will keep me occupied for a while.

now i just need to find a way to stop my bro from just showing it to his friends without even asking. just now I was sitting in the living room, and he and a friend walk right passed me, and out with a mag light, then i just look out the window, and they're looking at it. i mean come on, they walk right passed me without even clearing it. THATS MY PRIDE AND JOY!!! I wish it had an alarm, id sound it and scare them to death, then run out screaming at them.

lots of miles, but wont matter cause its in for one huge, and time consuming overhaul. I dont expect to be done for a few years with school and all. im gonna step on it when next summer comes, and hope to get new interior first. the whole dash it painted a... sparkly blue. odviously someone tried to do a walmart job at restoring it, and eventually gained some sence. its doors work fine, and the windows work fine, all 4 of them. you need a screwdriver to pop the trunk, and thats about it. i plan too keep the wheel it has now. I always like those.

Seeing that, 5 grand for a nearly new-condition, original, rust-free, 340 Duster seems like a really good deal.

Nice Duster, I'm happy for you. Please tell me you aren't just leaving that thing outside though. Some advice, INSIDE IMMEDIATELY! It looks like you live in a somewhat damp area, and that is just going to annihilate your car, especially with that hole in the floor; it will get about 50% bigger within a year. Also if you probably won't be able to work on it for a while, just get some heavy rustoleum spraypaint and cover over your rust with it. It's not the best or most effective way, but it's cheap and it works. Atleast that way you won't stroll out to the garage one day and find that what once was a pinhole now looks it could fit a Mack truck. Don't you live in Pennsylvania? Once you get heavy into the work on it I'll be going to college at the Wyotech in PA, maybe I'd help you work on it if you ask politely. ;) I'll keep an eye out for any Duster parts around here, good luck and nice car.

The good news about the 73-up Duster is that you don't need a different K member to put a V8 in it.

Duster_340
09-19-2006, 04:29 AM
Really? thats good news. just 1 less part I need to worry about, especially since I just took a look at it, and realized a good amount of the body is bondo... god I hope that junkyard has some nice Duster bodies. but hey, that just means less worry about rust. since I found that out, im gonna leave the body alone for a while. gonna do the interior first, see if I get that done by the end of summer, then ill do the trunk or something. then Ill see about the body, unless I go to that junk place and find some nice 1/4 pannels or a nice body soon. if I have to, ill order the front 1/4 pannels new, but look for a nice body in junkyards or other stuff. eather way this Duster won't be done for a long time. wouldn't be surprised if its done when Im done with high school.

EDIT: false alarm. theres just some bondo on one of the rear 1/4 pannels, no big worry. thats a relief. god I love my Duster.

Hey Duster 340, Try to go to the Jefferson swap meet this weekend, Sept. 23-24. It's a huge meet. You'll probably find some stuff for your car. The fall meet is the best for bargains, as the season is about over, and a lot of people want space in their garage. Jefferson is about 25 miles east of Madison on Rt. 18. Or use Rt. 26, depending on where you are coming from. Maybe I'll see you there, cuz I'm going.

im goning to deffinatly need to go there, but ill see if my mom can do it... but I doubt it. and I dont know if my Duster could make it. well... it could I guess. be interesting to see what people have to say about it.
EDIT: Just talked to her, its a no go. Jefferson is about 70 miles away from here. she would say yes if I had money to do some barganing, but its too bad. I hope you have a good time though.

I'v been thinking... Im just too young for a big project like this. it runs and all, but I think I just shouldn't have bought it. it needs alot of work, and I just don't have the tools, or the storage space. Im gonna sell it again, problebly on ebay. its worth too little to sell it on a different site. im gonna put a starting bid on it for 800, which is how much I got it for, and a BIN for a grand, no reserve. if any of you want it, we can arrange something. It would have to sit outside durring the winter, or id pay through the nose with storage. In a way im glad im making this decision. so yeah, im proud to say I at one time owned a Duster... for a week. lol. but this one makes me want a duster now. one without a huge hole making the tranny visible, or a dumb paintjob.

good starter project, yeah, but the main thing is the fact we can't store it, we have no where near the right tools to do so, and it would be pretty much sitting around until Im 19 after I got all my Social Security checks. I just looked around at prices on stuff, I can't pay for this on a part time job.
