so honestly, Iv heard people call them trucks, and Iv heard them caller cars. what would you say they are? I always call them cars. they got the back of a truck, front of a car, and heart of a car, IMO. i mean, the Camino was built off the Chevelle chassy, and El Camino means The Road. bottom line, there cars, IMO.

They are titled Trucks, the manufacturer calls them trucks, the state department of motor vehicles recognizes them as trucks.....they are TRUCKS. Not necessarily on a truck frame but a truck none the less.
And I might add..... Mine is a fine one too.
I have a question for you....Why is it that Ford built the Ranchero first...in 1957 and Chrysler built a Ute in 1957.... Chevy did not do this till later.....Why is it that the El Camino is always put first. FORD was first not Chevy.....
:p  :( Just curious......

I voted for cars. To me, if it has a car frame, it's a car. That why the crossover SUVs of today are cars. Meanwhile, SUVs like the Durango and Explorer are trucks.

I dont consider anything without four wheel drive a true truck

Me neither... what about a 1-ton, dual rear-wheel "truck" with 2-wheel drive?

well... dont get me wrong, your chero is a great car, but IMO, the Camino has better styling, and could be an SS. thats just me. I love that ford made the hybrid of a truck and car, but IMO, chevy took the idea, ran with it, and made it better. thats all just me.

No worries boys, I'm not or ever would be offended of the Camino vs Ranchero saga..... you see I own one of the finest Rancheros ever built if you saw my build sheet you would see it is worth far more than any Elkie ever built for the simple fact there are thousands of them and I mean thousands. My Ranchero *documented* is one of 283 built in 72 all my numbers match. That makes it worth more than any el ever will.

Even more than an 1970, LS6 4-speed Elky?

I'm just feeling a hole lot of love in here. :) There were a whole lot of Elkys made with the 454 Ls motors in a few different packages, Now I am an old Chevy man but having a hot rod shop I fall in love with a lot of different cars. But the ones that stand out the most are the low number special order cars. The one no one thinks or maybe wants to clone. Like the Bench seat auto on the column Mustang. Should I mention how many elks I've cloned for customers that beat up the phrase (different) till it made you cry? As far as Mopar I have stuffed more Hemi's in Darts and Runners and Cudas .... Oh that's original  Or how about the Yenko you cant find a number most time to identify if its a clone. Its nice to pull a builder sheet and find out you have one of a thousand let alone well below Five hundred. Now here is a good one 1973 Chevelle (big body) 454 turbo 400 automatic on the column 370's possie with a bench seat. Badged as an SS, the fellow was saying there are only 40 some odd produced. Now not a car I would be knocking on some ones door for but if the production numbers were correct I would be there with my One ton crew cab 2 wheel drive dually (TRUCK) :D and trailer trying to take her home.

I still consider 4wd Dually trucks 4wd instead of 6wd. If there were 6 seperate wheels then I would refer to them as being such. I have seen some Dually's with custom 4X6 stickers before.

Exactly My 2wd is just that a 2wd. They don't call it a 4wd so why should they call a 4wd a 6wd. :D

I say truck. If a Luv, an S10, and a Ranger are trucks, El Caminos and Rancheros are definately trucks. Hey Chero, would you be interested in another Ranchero? It's a '67 Ranchero Fairlane 500 about 20 minutes from my house thats in really nice shape (except for really shoddy false hood scoops). The women who owns it owns a hair salon, along with two GTOs, a '67 Pontiac Beaumont, and an '86 Vette.
